Earlier this year, we asked women about their lifestyle - nearly half said they were feeling moderately or extremely stressed & shockingly 40% feel like they're about to burn out. We weren't surprised, we feel it too. From our everyday never-ending 'to do' lists to the pressure the media puts on us to be the 'perfect woman'.

Brené Brown: The Power of Empathy

This audio is from a talk Brené Brown gave at the RSA in 2013 on vulnerability. Empathy is why Peer Specialists are so impactful!

The RSA public events programme has launched RSA Shorts (http://www.thersa.org/events/rsashorts).  This new series provides a snapshot of a big idea, blending voices from the RSA public events programme and the creative talents of illustrators and animators from around the world. It responds to the ever-increasing need for new ideas and inspiration in our busy lives and acts as a shot of 'mental espresso' to awaken the curiosity in all of us.   The audio of this RSA short is of Dr Brené Brown who spoke at the RSA on The Power of Vulnerability (http://www.thersa.org/events/audio-and-past-events/2013/the-power-of-vulnerability). She talks about the difference between sympathy and empathy and argues that to be truly empathetic you have to be vulnerable by connecting with someone's pain in yourself.   Animated and directed by Katy Davis (AKA Gobblynne). Jared Diamond: How societies can grow old better

TED Talk, March, 2013

There's an irony behind the latest efforts to extend human life: It's no picnic to be an old person in a youth-oriented society. Older people can become isolated, lacking meaningful work and low on funds. In this intriguing talk, Jared Diamond looks at how many different societies treat their elders -- some better, some worse -- and suggests we all take advantage of mature experience.
